Now the fishing in New Brunswick Harbours will not be the same anymore as Minister Thompson announces improvements at eighteen harbours across New Brunswick, including Blacks Harbour, Boynes Cove, Lameque, and Richibucto. These harbours will be safe thanks to significant infrastructure improvements funded by the Government of Canada.
The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Regional Minister for New Brunswick, on behalf of the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, has declared that $7.8 million will be allotted for new and ongoing projects, including dredging, wharf and breakwater repairs, environmental remediation, and planning work.
Speaking on this occasion Minister Thompson told that the Canadian government is committed to improving the infrastructure that the hard-working men and women in the fisheries need to earn a living. He added that this investment $7.8 million will make a real difference in providing safer working conditions for New Brunswick’s fisheries.
It is announced that the projects are being undertaken through Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Small Craft Harbours Program, in close collaboration with the harbour authorities that manage and operate the facilities for local users. The Government of Canada understands the importance of small craft harbours to communities across the country and so the permanent annual funding for the Small Craft Harbours Programme has been increased by $20 million.
