It is mentioned that the Caribbean Sea is facing acute damaging problems such as pollution from ships, over-fishing – and climate change. These causes are seriously torn apart the marine ecosystems in the waters around the region. According to scientists almost every corner of the world’s oceans has been damaged in some way by human activity.
The study points out that other areas suffering human attack are the North Sea, the South and East China seas, the east coast of North America and the Mediterranean Sea. It is said that the biggest damage caused by climate change. A significant rise in water temperatures have already been observed in the North Atlantic. The study also mentions that the oceans are becoming more acidic as they absorb carbon dioxide, and plants are being affected by increased ultraviolet radiation.
The study suggests shifting the shipping lines away from sensitive areas in order to minimize the effect. Kim Selkoe, co-author of the study, said that if human activity continues polluting oceans then there will be no place left for the fish to survive. As fishing boast are all over the oceans it dumps millions of pounds of unwanted dead fish, birds and mammals back into the ocean which threatened the life of many species wit extinction.
The study recommends introducing strict measures for commercial fishing and regular checking of fishing boats legitimacy.
