It is informed that new equipment being transferred from HB Grandi’s Vopnafjördur fishmeal facility to the new building that will be taken into use early next year. It is said that the total weight of the equipment is close to 200 tonnes and the largest single piece is the dryer that alone weighs in at 97 tonnes.
Factory manager Sveinbjörn Sigmundsson explained that the company is already behind the deadline to furnish the new building. Only the tower needs to be completed on the roof of the area where the evaporators will be installed. He added that these machines are 16 to 18 metres in height and weigh 36 tonnes altogether. The cooker is 23 tonnes and the press is 24 tonnes, so altogether these pieces of equipment are a total of 180 tonnes. Including all the smaller pieces of equipment we have moved, this comes close to 200 tonnes that have to be craned into the new building.
The new factory has a staff of 40 currently at work completing the building’s construction and installing machinery. 70 and 200 tonne cranes are used to lift individual pieces of equipment into position on the new factory floor. Sveinbjörn Sigmundsson opined that this job will be finished by the end of the week. Then we can complete the tower to make the building weatherproof.
