It is said that the thieves forced their way through the metal security fencing equipped with nets, bags and buckets, ripped the burglar alarm out and stole more than 30 of the most expensive fish. It is estimated that there was pound 10,000 of damage caused to the Japanese Water Garden on Toton Lane during the break-in at midnight on Monday July 14.
According to director, Wendy Langford, the incident was amazing as the first thing he saw there was hardly any water left in the main pond, which is where the most expensive fish are kept. She said that the thieves had drained it with the pump to make it easier to catch the fish. She told that the pond is usually five to six foot deep was found just a foot-and-a-half deep in water.
Mrs Langford explained that they must have been a professional outfit because they knew what they were doing. She informed that various different granite ornaments were smashed. She added that the thieves must have knocked things over in their struggle to get in. Police started the investigation and are hopeful to find the thieves soon.
