High fuel prices have a ripple effect from fishermen to the consumers as the price of the fish also rising. According to fishermen the soaring prices of diesel make them think twice about heading out on the water. Richard Bosarge said even shrimping has become risky business because a slow day on the water could be enough to dock his boat for good.
According to Bosarge fuel expense top the chart of expenditure for fishermen, almost 400 dollars a night, excluding other necessities. He continue saying after this the shrimpers add other costs to their product and at last the price of the product go enormous high for the consumers. Kenny DiNero informed that for many days his bait shop can’t afford to scrape the bottom, because fuel prices keep rising. He opined that the ever increasing price of diesel largely effect the price of the product.
Bosarge told that if the prices of diesel continue to surge like this then the local fishermen nets will be left high and dry. According to DiNero the rising fuel prices not only affected commercial fishermen but also recreational fishermen who are now going out less often to save their fuel costs.
