HB Grandi’s pelagic vessels have been fishing well on herring over the last 24 after a slow start. Lundey NS has already landed 700 tonnes in addition to the 350 tonnes that Faxi RE had landed to Vopnafjördur.
According to Ingimundur Ingimundarson, who is the mananger of the company’s pelagic operations, Faxi returned to fishing grounds and took its last haul at midday on Friday to start steaming in with 650 tonnes on board. Atlanto-Scandian herring catches have been found deep north-east of Langanes, but well inside the Icelandic EEZ.
HB Grandi’s Vopnafjördur processing plant has been freezing herring products and was able to produce 130 tonnes of frozen butterfly fillets from the catch landed by Faxi on Tuesday last week. Processing Lundey’s catch began on Thursday night.
The company’s third pelagic vessel, Ingunn AK, is still in port in Akranes undergoing a main engine overhaul. Ingimundur Ingimundarson said that Ingunn is scheduled to be back at sea shortly after the Seamen’s Day celebrations next weekend
