The herring fishery season is now in full swing as most of the Peterhead and Fraserburgh pelagic fishing fleet left their respective harbours this week to fish the west coast of Scotland and the North sea.
Scottish skippers are reporting a wide spread of marks, trawlers fished in different areas, including the Bulgher grounds which is just a few miles east of Fraserburgh harbour and the west side of the Orkney Islands.
The catches of herring range in size from 185g t0 210g although some reached 280g.
At around £600 per tonne, the herring prices are said to be at record levels.
The herring season as gathered some speed and around 6.800 tonne of herring have been landed at Peterhead Harbour, Scotland’s premier fishing port.
At least half this total came from the DANISH trawler GITTE HENNING L 349 which made her sixth landing of herring of the season into Peterhead harbour .
Other trawlers landing herring into Peterhead were Chris Andra, Voyager and Challenger.
The pelagic trawlers Christina, Resolute and Quantus landed into Lerwick Harbour to Shetland Catch.
