Following the acquisition earlier this year of a substantial stake in Iceland’s largest fishing and processing company, changes are taking place. Guðmundur Kristjánsson, who also owns fishing company Brim and stakes in a number of others, and who acquired the roughly 32% holding in HB Grandi, takes over as the new managing director.
According to reports in the Icelandic press and an announcement to the country’s stock exchange, Guðmundur Kristjánsson takes over from outgoing MD Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson as the board agreed to negotiate his departure from the company. At the same board meeting, Magnús Gústafsson was voted in as the new chairman.
Guðmundur Kristjánsson acquired the stake in HB Grandi from Halldór Teitsson and Kristján Loftsson earlier this year for a reported ISK22 billion (€174 million).
Management changes
Changes at management level had already been announced, with head of business development Svavar Svavarsson due retire before the end of the year. His role will be taken over on 1st of October by Torfi Th. Thorsteinsson, head of the demersal division, while Inga Jóna Friðgeirsdóttir will take over management of the company’s demersal division from the same date.
Inga Jóna has been head of fish drying at HB Grandi since the merger with Laugafiskur ehf in the later part of 2013. She was the managing director of Laugafiskur from 2004 and subsequently managing director of Brim from 2007 to 2013.
