On the 10th of April the pair-trawlers m/v Fram and m/v Vestmenningur began their season for Silver Smelt (Argentine). Since then they have made 14 trips and caught 3.900 tons.
M/v Fram started the season using a new Vónin Super Height 403 metre trawl and they have expressed great satisfaction with the new trawl. Their new Super Height has a vertical opening of 36-37 meters, whereas m/v Vestmennigur’s 352 metre trawl has an opening of 28-30 meters.
With the new trawl m/v Fram has continuesly had shorter tows than m/v Vestmenningur, because they were reaching some extra layers of fish, which were higher off the seabed.
The Vónin Super Height is the preferred trawl for catching Silver Smelt (Argentine), but is also used for catching other species such as Haddock, Saithe, Cod, Squid and Red Fish.
