The Tersan yard in Turkey has delivered Norway’s latest factory trawler, which has been christened by its godmother Kari Halstensen at a ceremony in Bekkjarvik, after which the new ship left for Ålesund.
The 81.20m LOA by 16.60m beam Granit has been built at the Tersan yard at Yalova in Turkey for Halstensen Granit AS and operated in co-operation with AS Granit in Vartdal. Production is marketed by Brødrene Sperre AS.
Granit is built to a Skipsteknisk ST-117 design and is the latest in a series of sophisticated factory trawlers built in recent years at Tersan for owners in Norway, Iceland, Canada and Russia.
The new vessel replaces an older trawler same name, built in 1989, which is now fishing for owners in New Zealand as San Granit.
The new trawler has a 6960kW main engine driving a 4200mm diameter CPP propeller. Auxiliary power comes from a pair of 1100kW gensets, plus there is a PTO on the gearbox and a 3500kW floating frequency shaft alternator.
Granit has a 1485 cubic metre refrigerated cargo hold, a forward fishmeal hold with a 370 cubic metre capacity a 165 cubic metre upper fishmeal hold and a 110 cubic metre packing/fishmeal hold
Built to tow three trawls, this method is expected to be used for fishing shrimp, with three 3200 mesh Vónin shrimp trawls spread with a pair of 16 square metre Vónin Storm doors. Vónin delivered the full package of shrimp gear, including codends, sorting grids and rockhoppers.
Vónin also supplied Granit with 740 mesh Bacalao trawls made in high-strength, low-drag Fortis netting for twin-rigging on whitefish.
