The seminars, to be held in Can Tho on September 30th and in Ho Chi Minh City on October 2nd, will discuss recent developments in Vietnam’s seafood industry and exports to the EU. It will consider the experiences of seafood exporters involved in anti-dumping investigations in the EU and how to best protect the interests of Vietnamese exporters in Brussels or at the WTO.
The event comes at a time when Vietnam has become one of the world’s largest exporters of fish products and imports to the EU have totalled 350,000 tons in 2008. It follows the adoption of a regulation to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing that will come into effect on January 1st next year and means Vietnamese exporters will be required to implement certificates stating the origins of all their products.
Speakers from Gide Loyrette Nouel will include Mr Olivier Prost, partner from the Brussels office and Mr Gérard Depayre, senior trade advisor, former Director of the EU Anti-dumping and Anti-subsidy Direction. Dr Nguyen Thi Thu Trang of the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Trade Remedies Council and Dr Claudio Dordi of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade will also speak at the seminar.
