The sale of Icelandic Group subsidiary Gadus has been concluded, with the company now in the hands of new owners Steinsalir ehf.
Based at Nieuwpoort in Belgium, Gadus is a processing, sales and distribution company supplying mainly fresh salmon and cod to retailers in Belgium with an annual production of around 7000 tonnes.
The new owners, also Icelandic, are Steinsalir ehf, which is in the ownership of a group of seafood industry companies; Akur fjárfestingar slhf, Brim hf, Fishproducts Iceland ltd, Hraðfrystihús Hellissands hf, Kambur hf, KG fiskverkun ehf, Oddi hf, Saemark Seafood ehf and Thorfish hf.
According to a statement, the present management at Gadus will continue to work with the new owner, and the company employs approximately 130 staff.
The new owner’s stated aims are be to promote sales and marketing of Icelandic seafood in Belgium and Central Europe. In addition to providing further support to Gadus, Steinasalir will work towards ensuring the interests of the Icelandic fishing industry in its marketing of high quality seafood on a global basis.
