Norwegian fishing gear supplier Frøystad AS is dividing its activities, establishing a separate company in Finnsnes which will focus on seine net gear while also supplying a range of items from the wider Frøystad range.
The intention is for Frøystad Finnsnes AS to be running by January in new premises and with 4-5 staff working with general manager Roy Arnfinn Olsen.
‘We see seine net gear as a very exciting market in which up to now we have only sold seine ropes, although this is a significant part of this market segment. To increase our activity in this sector, we need to increase our investment,’ said Per Frøystad.
‘An important part of this is having Roy Arnfinn join the team, so that we can offer both complete nets with ropes and service.’
The department will also sell the other Frøystad products for coastal fisheries, aquaculture and maritime requirements.
Seine net veteran Roy Arnfinn Olsen said that when the approach came from Frøystad AS to manage the new company and with a 20% stake in it, it wasn’t hard to make a decision.
‘Seine netting is the business I have been in all my life, including the last ten years as department manager for Selstad at Senjahopen. I see great opportunities for Frøystad Finnsnes AS to become a significant player in the long term,’ he said.
‘I have worked with the Frøystad people before and know them well, and we completely agree on the direction for the company. It’s also a big advantage that the company is located in Finnsnes, where I live.’
