Adelaide manufacturer SEAPA plans to achieve major sales of its oyster growing technology in France. Two leaders of the French oyster industry came as a guest to SEAPA to study their farming methods and consider buying their local technology. Andy Will, SEAPA marketing and sales manager, opined that the company was focusing on the French market because it was a major world oyster producer. According to him France supplies more than 150,000 tonnes of oysters annually in Europe and this represent a major market for SEAPA, with production 10-times larger than Australia’s oyster harvest of 15,000 tonnes.
Will states if SEAPA get a share of the French market the company could double or treble its business very quickly. He informed that SEAPA had already achieved small sales to France and was looking at to expand it on a larger scale. Will said that Australian skill of oyster farming as it is produced with the aim of reducing the labour component for the farms.
According to SEAPA its farmers adjust the height of baskets in the water and achieve optimum growth. In comparison France’s technology was anticipated and labour intensive.
