The MEST Shipyard in Tórshavn has contracted to build a new freezer trawler for Faroese fishing company Varðin, with a delivery date in mid-2026.
The new trawler for Varðin will have a 44.15 metre overall length and an 11.60 metre beam. The yard’s newbuild no 118, the trawler is designed in close co-operation with the customer and is intended to meet all foreseeable future requirements.
‘We at Varðin are delighted that the new trawler will be built in the Faroe Islands. MEST has built a number of trawlers and has recently delivered the new oceanic research vessel Jákup Sverri, So we chose MEST to be responsible for our newest vessel,’ said Varðin CEO Bogi Jacobsen.
It will be powered by a 2611hp Wärsilä-25 main engine, providing good fuel economy and with possibilities to be adapted to future greener operating options.
Varðin’s new trawler will have a freeing capacity of 40 tonnes per 24 hours and accommodation will be to a high standard.
