Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev addressed the sailors in the northern city of Murmansk and assured them that the government is reforming the system for the betterment of the industry. He added that the changes must be monitored with much attention as the issue is very complicated. He also informed that the government has drafted a law to allow foreign investment in Russian fishing industry.
He opined, “There is no need to keep the fishing industry closed to foreigners on the contrary we should give preference to the Russian fishing fleet and fishing companies.” According to him the foreign investment in this sector would develop the industry in much bigger scale. He also pointed out that the government is taking all measures to ensure a powerful navy in the country so that the commercial fishing industry could be benefited.
Medvedev is on a visit of Russian regions to observe the national social and commercial projects that need to be developed. Russia want to develop its commercial fishing industry up to the level of international standard and so foreign investment in the sector is considered.
