The commercial fishers from NSW fear that the recent floods may send some of them out of business. It is said that hundreds of operators along the coast are without an income for the next three months while they wait for fish stocks to return to normal levels. It is told that these local fishermen are waiting for fish stocks to return to normal levels. And they still don’t know if they’re eligible for any flood assistance.
It is beloved that commercial fisherman Geoff Blackburn is only just returning to work on the Macleay River, now assessing the damage from the floods. It is mentioned that there are plenty of bait and there’s no little fish, there’s no crabs, there’s no eels, there’s nothing. This is the third flood in three months on the Macleay River.
It is noted that in this flood all the fishermen have lost something, with gear or infrastructure. But the biggest impact has been – you physically cannot go to work because of the floodwaters, because of the debris. And also it moves the fish to different areas; the fish run and hide or go out to the ocean.
