‘We sailed on Thursday night but didn’t do much on Friday as the weather was still bad. We weren’t able to start fishing until Saturday morning,’ said Róbert Axelsson, first mate and this trip’s relief skipper on Ingunn AK, when we spoke to him on Monday.
He said that as well as HB Grandi’s vessels Ingunn AK, Faxi RE and Lundey NS, Hoffell SU, Sighvatur Bjarnason VE and Ísleifur VE are also on the same grounds on the bank south-east of the Grindavík Deeps.
‘There’s not a lot to be seen and not much by the way of marks. Most of what we have seen is small patches. It’s also a problem that there’s no point even trying to catch pearlside except during daylight – and we don’t have many daylight hours at the moment. We’re towing from morning until dusk and a 120 to 150 tonne haul is pretty good under these conditions,’ Róbert Axelsson said.
Ingunn and Faxi are now finishing their trip and are on the way to Akranes to discharge their catches for processing into fishmeal at HB Grandi’s factory there.
