Fishes closely cooperates with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). The MSC-ecolabel guarantees that the fish is derived from sustainable and well-managed fisheries. Fishes was the first fishmonger chain on the European mainland to receive the MSC-certificate. All the efforts made by Bart van Olphen, founder and director of Fishes, were rewarded in 2008 with the International Seafood Champion Award in Boston for being the most sustainable seafood entrepreneur in the world. Fishes continues to be a pioneer and its now the only brand in Europe that has a 100% MSC-certified frozen line.
“We developed this new frozen line to increase the amount of MSC-products available. With these surprising products such as the Thai fishcake and the hake, it’s now possible to have a delicious and sustainable fish from our frozen segment”, according to Bart van Olphen.
The frozen line is available in the supermarkets in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and will soon be available in Belgium and France.
