Member for Fisher Peter Slipper and Senator Richard Colbeck have listened the problems facing by the fishermen regarding their fishing grounds. The fishermen complain that they felt they had been ignored by the Gillard-Rudd Government at a time when they needed more support than ever. Slipper said that these operators are already going through extremely tough times because of higher fuel prices and exchange rates and increased government red tape.
He added that Labor government might impose even more restrictions without adequately consulting the industry. These people are right to feel frustrated and fed-up, says Slipper who promised a balance environment to them. The Labor Government is considering a proposal to declare sections off the Queensland coast Marine Park Areas, essentially restricting activities such as commercial and recreational fishing.
According to Slipper the operators should content that a Liberal National government would give the issue the consideration and balance it needed. He told that fishing provides lots of employment and is very important to the Sunshine Coast and Queensland economies.
