As per the press release of the Canadian government the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, has announced a $25,000 funding contribution toward the inaugural National Fish and Wildlife Conservation Congress to be held in Ottawa on May 27-31, 2012. She said that this investment will support the development of a North American strategy to promote the conservation and sustainable use of fish and wildlife resources.
Minister Shea also said that the Government of Canada is proud to participate with other committed partners whose interests align with our priorities to conserve and protect fish and fish habitat. This has become important to support such projects on how to manage our fish and wildlife resources, including their habitat, for the future.
Canada is a leader in the management of marine and freshwater habitat and fisheries. Our scientific research in the fields of fish habitat, fisheries and aquaculture, aquatic animal health, invasive species such as Asian carp and sea lamprey, and species at risk continues to inform Canadian policy and management decisions for the conservation, protection and sustainable use of Canada’s natural resources.
The Congress is hosted by the Ontario Federation of Hunters and Anglers with an aim to bring together scientists, federal, provincial, state and local fish and wildlife agencies, conservation organizations as well as hunters and anglers to participate in workshops.
