At the start of last week Peterhead Fish Market was busy,after several trawlers had their first trips for a few weeks due to bad weather conditions.
The first two markets at the Peterhead Scotland’s main fishing port most selections attracted good prices with Haddock making £160-£171 per 57kg box and Whiting selling at £57-£100 per 57kg box.
On the first market of the week Monday March 7 Twelve trawlers landed a total of 4325 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following prices Haddock Large £2.80-£3.00, Medium £2.80-£3.00, Cod Large £2.50-£3.50, Medium £2.20-£2.80, Whiting £1.00-£1.75, Round Whiting 65p-£1.00, Lemon Sole £1.00-£4.00, Coley £1.20-£1.40, Monkfish £3.00-£4.00, Megrims £4.20-£6.50, Plaice 65p-£1.00, Hake 90p-£1.50, Witches 90p-£1.50 and Ling £1.40-£1.70.
Trawlers Landed Ardent, Advance, Artemis, Glenugie, Constant Friend, Onward, Ocean Trust, Sagittarius, Demares, Devotion, Amity and Benarkle.
The following day’s market Tuesday saw Nine trawlers land a total of 2812 boxes of whitefish selling at Cod Large £2.50-£3.30, Medium £2.30-3.00, Haddock Large £2.50-£2.90, Medium £2.50-£2.90, Whiting £1.00-£1.80, Lemon Sole £1.00-£5.00, Monkfish £3.50-£4.00, Coley £1.00-£1.10, Megrim £3.00-£6.00, Plaice 70p-£1.50, Ling £1.50, Hake £2.00-£3.00 and Witches £1.00-£2.00.
Trawlers landed Jubilee Quest (Grimsby) Strathelliot, Ocean Venture, Helenus, Nordfjordr, Tranquility, Atlantic Challenge, Resilient, and Avocet.
On the next day Wednesday Eight trawlers landed a total of 3865 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following prices Cod Large £2.50-£3.40, Medium £2,00-£2.60, Haddock Large £1-80-£2.50, Medium £1.80-£2.50, Whiting 50p-£1.00, Round Whiting 65p-£1.00, Lemon Sole £2.00-£5.00, Monkfish £3.50-£4.00, Megrims £2.00-£5.00, Coley 90p-£1.20, Hake £1.50-£3.00, Plaice 70p-£1.50, Witches £1.00-£1.50 and Ling £1.00-£1.50.
Trawlers Landed Elegance, Starlight Rays, Starlight, Opportunius, Ocean Reward, Maracestina, Our Lass and Minerva.
The following day Thursday saw three trawlers land a total of 1082 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following Large Cod £2.60-£3.60, Medium £2.50-£3.00, Haddock Large £3.70, Medium £2.70, Whiting 80p-£2.20, Round Whiting 80p-£1.20, Coley £1.00-£1.35, Monkfish £3.50-£4.00, Plaice 50p-£1.00, Witches £1.50-£2.00 and Ling £1.40-£1.60.
Trawlers landed Phoenix, Falcon and Allegiance.
The final market day of the week Friday saw Seven trawlers land a total of 5369 boxes of whitefish which sold for the following prices, Large Cod £2.70-£3.20, Medium £2.50-£3.00, Large Haddock £2.20-£2.60, Medium £2.20-£2.60, Whiting £1.00-£2.00, Round Whiting 85p-£1.00, Lemon Sole £2.00-£4.00, Monkfish £3.50-£4.00, Coley £1.00-£1.45, Megrims £1.50-£4.00, Plaice 50p-£1.00, Hake £1.00, Witches £1.00-£2.50 and Ling £1.00-£1.50.
Trawlers landed Attain Castlewood, Summer Dawn, Golden Gain, Ocean Harvest, Heather Sprig and Harvester.
At Peterhead Harbour there were landings from39 trawlers landing a total of 17,453 boxes of whitefish.
At Fraserburgh Harbour there 55 trawlers landings of 4225 boxes of white which sold at fair prices.
At Ullapool thee was a decent week with one Spanish liner/netter landing 25 tonnes of mixed whitefish, two Scottish trawlers landing 96 tonnes , while three Scottish crabbers landed 30 tonnes of brown crab.
At Buckie Harbour Five vessels landed 152 boxes of white fish, prawn and squid which sold at good prices.
At Pittenweem Harbour the local prawn fleet had a good week fishing the prawn grounds of the Firth of Forth and their catches sold for good prices at the local Pittenweem Fish market.
