With North -Westerly Storm Force 10 gales hitting Scotland at the end of August resulted in a drop at market on the first two days of last week Monday and Tuesday August 29-30 as trawler were forced to head for home ports as the weather worsened.
Large Haddock sold at £114-£171 per 57kg box and Whiting sold at £86-£114 per 57kg box and round whiting sold at £46-£114 per 57kg box at Peterhead Fish Market Scotland’s premier fishing port.
The first market of the week Monday August 29 saw Twenty trawlers land a total of 5384 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following prices at Cod Large £2.30-£3.50, Medium £2.20-£2.80, Haddock Large £3.00, Medium £3.00, Metros 60p-£1.00, Whiting £1.50-£2.30, Round Whiting 45p-£1.20, Lemon Sole £1.00-£4.50, Monkfish £3.50-£4.00, Coley 50p-£1.30, Megrims £2.00-£6.00, Plaice 60p-£2.00, Hake £1.00-£1.80, Witches 60p-£1.50, Ling £1.80, and Squid £2.00-£7.00.
Trawlers Landed Opportunus, Daisy, Sunrise, Boy Andrew, Sagittarius, Ryanwood, Helenus, Adrone, Noedfjordr, Constant Friend, Valhalla, Millburn, Conguest, Celestial Dawn, Accord, Haltem Bank, Zenith, Atlantic Challenge, Pegasus and Harvest Hope.
The next day’s market Tuesday saw Two trawlers land a total of 945 boxes of whitefish which made the following prices at market. Large Haddock £2.50-£3.00, Medium £2.50-£3.00, Cod Large £2.00-£3.00, Medium £2.00-£2.50, Metros £1.00-£2.00, Whiting £1.50-£2.00, Round Whiting 80p-£1.30, Lemon Sole £1.50-£5.00, Monkfish £3.70-£4.20, Coley £1.00-£1.60. No Megrims Sold, Plaice 65p-£1.30, No Hake Sold, Witches £1.00-£2.00, Ling £1.80-£2.40, Squid Fresh £3.00-£7.20. Trawled £3.50-£4.60.

Cod Large £2.70-£3.20, Medium £2.70-£3.00, Haddock £2.70, Metros £1.30-£1.50, Whiting £1.50-£2.40, Round Whiting 70p-£1.10, Lemon Sole £1.50-£5.00, Monkfish £3.50-£4.20, Coley 70p-£1.40, Megrims £2.50-£5.80, Plaice 65p-£1.50, Hake £1.20-£1.80, Witches £1.00-£2.00, Ling £1.80-£2.10, Squid £3.50-£6.00.

The last market day of the week Friday saw Fourteen trawlers land a total of 6510 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following prices at market, Large Haddock £2.00-£2.20, Medium £2.00-£2.20, Cod Large £2.30-£3.30, Medium £2.20-£2.80, Metros 90p-£1.20, Whiting 80p-£1.20, Round Whiting 60p-£1.20, Lemon Sole £1.50-£4.00, Monkfish £3.50-£4.20, Coley £1.00-£1.70, Megrims £2.00-£5.00, Plaice 65p-£1.50, Hake £1.25-£2.20, Witches £1.00-£2.00, and Ling £1.80-£2.20. No Squid Sold.
Trawlers Landed Minerva, Helenus, Nordfjordr, Golden Gain, Sumner Dawn, Ocean Harvest, Harvester, Crystal River, Tranquility, Faithful, Viking Monarch, Adrone, Ryanwood and Ocean Reward.
At Peterhead Harbour there were landings from 53 trawlers for a total of 20,118 boxes of whitefish over the week, There Seven Pelagic vessel landings of herring.
At Fraserburgh Harbour there 58 trawlers landing a total of2740 boxes of whitefish.
At Ullapool Harbour One Scottish Crabber, A Spanish long liner and Scottish trawler landed. Also Two Scottish Scallopers each landed twice bringing in 33 tonnes of locally caught Scallops. Good Prices were reported..
At Scrabster Harbour there were 10 trawlers over the week landing a total of 2099 boxes of white fish.
At Buckie Harbour only eight trawlers landed a total of 462 boxes of whitefish,prawns and Squid over the week.
At Pittenweem Harbour, Fife there were good landings of Prawns from the local prawn fleet who are still working the local grounds of the Firth of Forth and a bit further a field. The local prawns are still being sold to out lets in Paris.
At St Monans, Anstruther and Crail harbours the local shellfish boats are landing lobsters and crabs.
