White fish prices were high at the start of last week at Peterhead Fish market Scotland’s premier fishing port as the shortage of quota and fishing days at sea continue to impact heavily on the landings.
With around 2000 boxes of white fish landed on Tuesday morning, large haddock sold for £160 a 57kg box with medium making £160-£200.
On Monday August 16th a total of 10 trawlers landed 5,297 boxes of white fish which at Large Cod £2.50-£3.30., Medium £2.20-£2.70, Large Haddock £2.00-£2.50, Medium £2.40-£2.50, Whiting £1.70-£2.00, Monkfish £3.50-£4.50, Lemon Sole £1.00 -£5.00, Coley £1.00-£1.20, Megrim £1.50-£4.00, Plaice 60p-£2.00, Hake £1.00-£1.50, Witches £1.00-£2.00.
Trawlers Landed Celestial Dawn, Denbula, Adorne, Acorn, Harvest Hope, Golden Gain, Summer Dawn, Budding Rose, Lapwing and Bensarkle.
The following day Tuesday only 4 trawlers landed a total 2114 boxes of white fish which sold for the following Large Cod £2.50-£3.20, Medium £2.40-£2.70, Large Haddock £2.80, Medium £2.80-£3.50, Whiting £32.00-£2.50, Monkfish £3.50-£4.00, Megrims £1.00-£4.00, Coley £1.00-£1.20, Plaice 70p-£1.50, Hake £1.00-£2.00, Witches £1.00-£1.50 and Ling £1.35-£1.75.
Boats landed Seagull, Starlight, Silver fern and Starlight Rays.
On Wednesday 13 trawlers landed a total of 4103 boxes of white fish with Large Cod selling at £2.50-£3.00, Medium £2.40-£2.90, Haddock Large £3.00, Medium £3.00-£3.30, Lemon Sole £1.00-£5.00, Monkfish £3.00-£4.00, Coley ££1.-£1.10, Megrim £1.00-£3.00, Whiting £1.60-£2.20, Plaice 70p-£1.50, Hake £1.00-£2.30, Witches £1.00-£1.50 and Ling £1.10-£1.70.
Trawlers landed Acheive, Strathelliot, Farmella, Fear Not, Arcturus, Accord, Renown, Sustain, Demares, Devotion, Opportunus, Vela , Prospect.
The following day Thursday saw 11 trawlers landed a total of 3459 boxes of white fish with Cod large £2.60-£3.30, Medium £2.40-£2.80, Large Haddock £2.20-£2.50, Medium £2.20-£2.50, Whiting £1.50-£2.00, Monkfish £3.00-£4.20 Coley 80p-£1.20, Megrims £1.00-£3.00 Lemon Sole £1.00-£5.00, Plaice 70p-£1.70, Witches £1.50-£2.50, Hake 70p-£3.00 and ling£1.60-£3.00.
Trawlers landed Maranatha, Aalskere, Golden Splendour, Karmarra, Sunrise, Rosemount, Tranqulity, Prospect, Budding Rose, Lapwing, Maracestina.
The last day of the weeks market saw 15 trawlers land a total of 3326 boxes of white fish which sold at Cod Large £2.40-£3.30, Medium, £2.00-£2,75, Haddock Large £2.00-£2.60, Medium £2.00-£2.60.. Whiting £1.50-£2.20, Lemon Sole £1.00-£4.00, Coley 60p-90p, Monkfish £3.00-£4.00, Megrims £1.75-£3.00, Plaice 70p-£1.50, Hake 30p-£1.50, Witches £1.10-£1.60 and Ling £1,10-£1.60
Trawlers landed Our Guide, Our Lass, Zenith, Achieve, Acorn, Arkh Angle, Crystal Tide, Ocean Harvest, Harvester, Favonius, Amity, Fruitful Bough, Daisy, Moremma and Prospect.
There were a total of 54 vessel landings at Peterhead with a total of 18,299 boxes of whitefish over the week. There were also three pelagic landings of herring.
At Fraserburgh harbour 178 vessels landed a total of 5321 boxes of whitefish which sold for good prices.
At Ullapool there was a better week with Three Scottish trawlers landing 114 tonnes of white fish, one Spanish liner landing 15 tonnes and two crabbers taking 16 tonnes of brown crab.
There were fair landings of prawns at Pittenweem Harbour Fife’s main fishing port. Where prices were reported fair.
