Last week Peterhead Fish Market Scotland’s premier fishing port experienced the largest weeks tally for this year due to a higher than usual number of whitefish trawlers landing in a few days of each other due to the good weather conditions. One 39 metre Danish Multi- rig fishing trawler the Malle landed into Peterhead harbour last Sunday with her catch of whitefish.
The first market of the week Monday April 4th Ten trawlers landed a total of 3996 boxes of white fish which sold at market for the following prices. Large Cod £2.00-£2.80, Medium £2.00-£2.80, Haddock Large ££1.30-£1.90, Medium £1.30-£1.90, Whiting £1.00-£1.70, Round Whiting 90p-£1.60, Lemon Sole £1.50-£5.00, Coley £1.20-£1.50, Monkfish £3.00-£4.50, Megrims £1.50-£4.00, Plaice 70p-£1.50, Hake £1.50-£3.00, Witches £1.00-£1.50 and Ling £1.50-£1.80.
Trawlers landed Ocean Harvest, Harvester, Celestial Dawn, Amity, Boy Andrew, Sagittarius, Golden Sceptre, Ocean reaper, Aurella and Malle.
The following day’s market Tuesday saw eight trawlers land an total of 3361 boxes of white fish which sold at the following prices Large Cod £2.00-£3.00, Medium £2.00-£2.80, Haddock Large £1.30-£1.50, Medium £1.30-£1.50, Whiting £1.00-£1.60, Lemon Sole £1.20, Round Whiting £1.30-£1.60, Monkfish £3.00-£4.50, Coley £1.30-£1.50, Megrims £1.50-£4.00, No Place No Hake, Witches £1.00-£1.50 and Ling £1.00-£1.55.
Trawlers landed Constant Friend, Ocean Reward, Venture, Ardent, Courageous, Ocean Dawn, Advance and Sunrise.
On the Wednesday market saw Seven trawlers land a total of 4117 boxes of white fish selling at Cod Large £2.00-£2.80, Medium £2.00-£2.70, Haddock Large £1.50-£1.60, Medium £1.50-£1.60, Whiting £1.50-£1.80, Whiting Round £1.40-£1.60, Lemon Sole £1.50-£3.00, Coley £1.30-£1.50, Megrims £1.50-£3.00, Monkfish £3.80-£4.00, Plaice £1.00-£2.00, Hake £4.00, Witches £1.00-£2.00 and Ling £1.00-£1.40.
Trawlers landed Rosemount, Arcturus, Ocean Bounty, Summer Dawn, Golden Gain, Artemis and Fruitful Bough.
The following day’s market Thursday saw Three trawlers a total of 2301 boxes of whitefish which sold for the following prices Cod Large £2.40-£3.00, Medium £2.30-£2.70, Haddock Large £1.75-£1.90, Medium £1.75-£1,90, Whiting £!.75-1.80, Round Whiting £1.40-£1.75, Lemon Sole £2.00-£7.00, Monkfish £3.80-£4.20, Coley £1.15-£1.40. No Megrims, Plaice £1.00-£3.00, Ha hake £1.50-£3.20, Witches £1.00-£2.00 and Ling £1.00-£1.20.
Trawlers landed Our Lass, Shalimar (PD) and Artemis.
The last market day of the Friday saw Five trawlers land a total of 1737 boxes of white fish selling at the following prices. Large Haddock £2.20-£2.30 Medium £2.20-£2.30, Cod Large £2.80-£4.00, Medium £2.50-£3.00, Whiting £2.00-£2.20, Round Whiting £1.80-£2.10, Lemon Sole £1.00-£5.00, Coley £1.25-£2.00, Megrims Unsold, Monkfish £3.30-£4.40, Plaice 70p-£1.50, Hake £1.50-£5.00, Witches £1.00-£2.00 and Ling £1.00-£1.40.
Trawlers Landed Aurelia, Valhalla, Rosebloom, Boy John and Headway X.
Peterhead landings from 33 boats for the week totaled 15,512 boxes of white fish. There were Two pelagic landings of Blue Whiting.
At Fraserburgh harbour there were 27 landings over the week totalling 2,340 boxes of white fish.
At Scrabster Harbour 13 boats landed a total of 5918 boxes .
At Buckie Harbour only two boats landed 27 boxes of white fish, prawns and squid plus 31 bags of clams.
At Pittenweem Harbour the local prawn fishing fleet enjoyed a good weeks fishing in the Firth of Forth grounds and beyond with reported good landings which sold for good prices..
