The fishing fleet returned to sea last week after an area of high pressure built up after the previous weeks severe south easterly gales that hit Scotland. Peterhead had the biggest opening markets for over four weeks at the start of last week Monday and Tuesday with over 9,000 boxes of whitefish sold.
Haddock made £108-£125 per 57 kg box with Whiting £97-£125 per 57 kg box. and Coley £57-£71 per 57kg box.
The market of the week Monday 28 February saw six trawlers land a total of 4673 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following prices Cod Large £2.00-£2.80, Medium £2.00-£2.50, Haddock Large £2.00,Medium £2.00, Whiting £1.70-£2.00, Round Whiting £1.30-£1.80, Lemon Sole £2.00-£4.00, Monkfish £3.00-£4.00, Coley 70p-£1.20, Megrims £3.50-£6.00, Plaice 50p-£1.00, Hake £3.00-£4.50 and Ling £1.50.
Trawlers Landed, Tranquility, Golden Gain, Summer Dawn, Opportune, Our Lass and Renown.
The following market day Tuesday saw Five trawlers land a total of 4571 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following prices Large Cod £1.70-£2.50, Medium £2.00-£2.50, Haddock Large £1.90-£2.20, Medium £1.90-£2.20, Whiting £1.70-£2.20, Round Whiting £1.50-£1.60, Coley £1.00-£1.25. Lemon Sole £2.00-£4.00, Monkfish £2.60-£4.20, Megrims £4.00-£6.00, Plaice 60p-£1.50, and Ling £1.20-£1.70.

On the Next Wednesday Six trawlers landed a total of 3356 boxes of white fish which sold for the following Cod Large £2.00-£3.00, Medium £2.00-£2.70, No Large Haddock sold, Haddock Medium £2.00-£2.40, Whiting £1.75, Round Whiting £1.00-£1.40, Lemon Sole £2.00-£5.00, Monkfish £3.00-£4.00, Coley £1.00-£1.30, No Megrims sold, Plaice £1.00-£1.50 and Ling £1.50-£1.80.
Trawlers landed Boy Andrew, Crystal River, Faithful, Starlight Rays, Starlight and Arcane.
On the next days market Thursday Nine trawlers landed a total of 4795 boxes of whitefish which went at the following prices, Large Cod £2.00-£2.80, Medium £2.00-£2.50, Haddock Large £2.20-£2.50, Medium £2.20-£2.50, Whiting £1.60-£1.75, Round Whiting 80p-£1.00, Lemon Sole £1.50-£5.50, Coley £1.00-£1.25, Monkfish £3.00-£4.40, Megrims £2.00-£5.00, Plaice 70p-£1.00, Hake £2.00-£6.00 and Ling £1.50-£1.80.
Trawlers landed Budding Rose, Lapwing, Avocet, Golden Sceptre, Tranquility, Acorn, Renown, Harvester and Ocean Harvest.
The last market of the week Friday saw Five trawlers land a total of 1501 boxes of whitefish which sold for the following prices Large Cod £2.40-£3.00, Medium £2.20-£2.70, Haddock Large £2.50-£2.80-Medium £2.50-£2.80, Whiting 90p-£1.40, Round Whiting 65p-90p, No Lemon Sole sold, Monkfish £3.00-£4.00, Coley £1.10-£1.25, Megrims £2.00-£5.50, Plaice 60p-£1.50, Hake £2.00-£4.00, Witches £1.60-£2.30 and ling £1.50.
Trawlers landed Celestial Dawn, Our Lass, Achieve, Moremma and Favonius.
At Peterhead 31 trawlers landed a total of 18,896 boxes of whitefish over the week. There were no Pelagic landings.
At Fraserburgh Harbour market there were landings from 30 boats total 2,572 boxes of whitefish.
At Ullapool Harbour there was another decent week with Eight Spanish liner/netter’s landing 152 tonnes of mixed whitefish, Two Scottish trawlers landing 113 tonnes while Two Scottish Crabbers took 19 tonnes of Brown Crab.
At Buckie Harbour Only Four boats landed 49 boxes of whitefish, Prawn and Squid which sold for low prices.
At Pittenweem Harbour Fife, the prawn fleet had a good weeks fishing in the Firth of Forth and landed good catches of Prawns which sold at market for good prices.
A new shellfish fishing boat as joined the Pittenweem (Fife) prawn fishing fleet. The new vessel built by David Todd for his Son has been named Genesis KY20 and seen here in its home port of Pittenweem.
