Most trawlers in the north east of Scotland stayed in harbour last week as the strong south-easterly gales continued, with only three trawlers landing at Peterhead Harbour Scotland’s premier fishing port for the first two markets of the week Monday and Tuesday February 21-22. where most of the 4,896 boxes of white fish came of boats that were consignments.
The continuing low supply of fish, kept prices up. Haddock all sizes made £125-£143 per 57kg box with Whiting making £86-£108 per 57kg box.
Peterhead started the week February 21st with only two trawlers landing, the Fraserburgh pair trawlers Falcon and Phoenix landing at the harbour together with Seven consignment boats.
The first market of the week Monday 21st February saw two trawlers and 7 consignments land a total of 2580 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following prices. Cod Large £2.50-£3.00, Medium £2.00-£2.50, Haddock Large £2.20-£2.50, Medium £2.20-£2.50,Whiting £1.50-£2.00, Round Whiting £1.00-£150, Lemon Sole £2.00-£5.00, Monkfish £4.00-£5.50, Coley £1.20-£1.40, Megrims £3.00-£6.00, Plaice 45p-£1.20, Hake £1.00-£2.00, Witches £1.00-£3.40 and Ling £1.30.
Trawlers landed Falcon, Phoenix.
The following day’s market Tuesday saw One trawler and 4 consignments land a total of 2289 boxes of whitefish which sold at market for the following prices, Large Cod £1.90-£2.00, Medium £2.20-£2.50,No Large Haddock Sold, Haddock Medium £1.80-£2.50, Whiting £1.30-£1.80, Round Whiting £1.20-£1.60, Monkfish £3.50-£5.50, Lemon Sole £2.00-£4.00, Coley 90p-£1.20, Megrims £3.00-£6-00, Plaice 50p-£1.00, Hake £1.00-£4.00 Ling £1.00-£1.20 and Pollock £1.80-£2.40.
Trawlers Landed Arkh Angell and Four Consigned.
The next day’s market Wednesday saw Six trawlers land a total of 2707 boxes of whitefish which sold at the following Large Cod £2.00-£2.80, Medium £1.90-£2.60, Haddock Large £1.90-£2.40, Medium £1.90-£2.20, Whiting £1.80-£2.00, Round Whiting £1.10-£2.00, Lemon Sole £2.00-£5.00, Coley £1.20, Monkfish £4.50-£5.00, No Megrims, No Hake , No Witches sold, Plaice 60p-£1.00.
Trawlers landed Farnella, Courageous, Ocean Dawn, Arcane, Summer Dawn, and Golden Gain.
On the next day Thursday eight trawlers landed a total of 3495 boxes of white fish which sold at market for the following prices. Large Cod £2.50-£3.00, Medium £2.50-£2.70, No Large or medium Haddock sold, Whiting £1.80-£2.00, Round Whiting £1.40-£2.00, Lemon Sole £2.00-£5.00, Monkfish £4.00-£5.40, Coley £1.00-£1.30, there were no Megrims, Plaice, Hake or Witches sold, Ling £1.50 and Squid £3.70-£6.75.
Trawlers landed Arcane,Crystal River, Faithful, Ardent, Advance, Attain, Castlewood and Ocean Harvest.
The last market of the week saw eight trawlers land a total of 2238 boxes of white fish which sold at the following Large Cod £2.20-£3.00, Medium £2.20-£2.50, Haddock Large £2.00-£2.20, Medium £2.00-£2.20, Whiting £1.60-£1.80, Round whiting £1.60-£1.80, Coley £1.00-£1.15, Monkfish £2.00-£5.00, Megrims £2.00-£4.50, Lemon Sole £2.00-£3.00, Plaice50p-£1.00, Witches £2.00-£3.00 and ling £1.00-£1.50.
Trawlers Landed Harvester, Ocean Venture, Heather Sprig, Annegina, Andrea, Acrane, Atlantic Challenge and Avocent.
Landings at Peterhead for the week from 25 boats totalled 13,309 boxes pf white fish.
At Fraserburgh Harbour eight boats landed a total of 308 boxes.
At Ullapool there was a decent week with one Spanish liner/netter landing 22 tonnes of mixed whitefish. Three Scottish trawlers landed 148 tonnes of mixed white fish while one Scottish Crabber landed 10 tonnes of brown crab.
At Scrabster 28 boats landed 8,588 boxes over the week which sold for good prices.
At Buckie Harbour Only four boats landed 542 bags of clams.
At Pittenweem Harbour Fife the prawns boat had a fair week with good landings and good prices reported.
