Last week’s poor weather conditions disrupted fishing trips and the levels of whitefish landings at Peterhead Fish Market Scotland’s Premier fishing port were lower than usual with around 5400 boxes were landed at the port for the first two day’s markets Monday and Tuesday September 19-20.
Haddocks made £217 per 57kg box, Whiting made £80-£97 per 57kg box and Hake made £87-£217 per 57kg box.
The First market day of the week Monday September 19 saw Six trawlers land a total of 2490 boxes of white fish which sold at the following prices Large Haddock £2.50-£2.80, Medium £2.50-£2.80,Cod Large £3.50-£3.90, Medium £3.00-£3.50, Metros £1.30-£1.60, Whiting £1.50-£2.50, Round Whiting 75p-£1.20, Lemon Sole £2.00-£6.00, Monkfish £4.00-£4.50, NO Coley sold, Megrims £4.50-£8.00, Plaice £1.20-£2.10, Hake £2.00-£2.30, Witches £2.00, Ling £1.80-£2.20, and Squid £3.00-£7.00.
Trawlers landed Harvest Hope, Maracestina, Valhalla, Opportunus, Sustain and Surmount.
The following day’s market Tuesday saw Five trawlers a total of 2947 boxes of whitefish which made the following prices at market, Cod Large £4.00-£4.70, Medium £3.80-£4.50, No Large Haddock sold, Haddock Medium £3.80, Metros £1.00-£1.50, Whiting £1.30-£2.80, Round Whiting £1.40-£1.70, Lemon Sole £2.00-£5.00, Monkfish £4.00-£4.60, Coley £1.40-£1.70, Megrims £3.00-£8.00, Plaice 80p-£1.80, Ha Hake £1.50-£3.80, Witches £1.70-£3.50, Ling £2.00-£2.20 and Squid £2.75-£7.00
Trawlers landed Ocean Venture, Boy Andrew, Attain, Achieve and Castlewood.
The next day’s market Wednesday saw Fifteen trawlers land a total of 4077 boxes of whitefish which sold at market for the following prices Large Cod £3.00-£3.80, Medium £2.80-£3.80, Haddock Large £3.00, Medium £3.00, Metros 90p-£1.20, Whiting £1.90-£2.40, Round Whiting £1.00-£1.90, Lemon Sole £1.50-£5.00, Monkfish £4.00-£5.30, Coley £1.50-£1.80, Megrims £4.00-£5.50, Plaice 65p-£2.00, Hake £2.00-£5.00,Witches £1.50-£3.00, Ling £1.60-£2.40, and Squid £3.20-£6.00.
Trawlers landed Audacious, Lapwing, Budding Rose, MaiMai,Seagull, Norlantean, Ocean Bounty, Ryanwood, Adorne, Ocean Reward, Fruitful Bough, Avocet, Saggittarius, Celestial Dawn and Ocean Way.
The following day’s market Thursday saw Fourteen trawlers land a total of 5273 boxes of whitefish which made the following prices at market Large Cod £3.00-£4.00, Medium £2.80-£3.50, Haddock Large £2.50-£2.80, Medium £2.50-£2.80, Metros 60p-90p, Whiting £1.60-£2.20, Round Whiting 65p-£1.30, Lemon Sole £1.50-£5.00, Monkfish £4.00-£5.00, Coley £1.20-£1.55, Megrims £3.00-£6.30, Plaice 65p-£2.00, Hake £2.00-£3.60, Witches £1.00-£2.00, Ling £1.50-£2.10, And Squid £3.00-£6.00
Trawlers landed Sustain, Surmount, Aalskere, Viking Monarch, Starlight Rays, Starlight, Artemis, Shalimar, Moray Endeavour, Constant Friend, Karenann, Minerva, Favonius and Ocean Reaper.
The final market of the week Friday saw Four boats land a total of only 666 boxes of whitefish which sold for the following prices. There was No Large Cod Sold, No Medium Cod Sold, No Large Haddock Sold, No Medium Haddock Sold, Small Haddock £2.00, Metros £1.00. No Whiting Sold, Round Whiting 75p-90p Lemon Sole £1.50-£4.50, There Was No Coley sold, No Plaice Sold Monkfish £4.00-£5.00, No Megrims Sold, No Hake Sold, No Witches Sold, no Ling Sold, Squid £2.00-£6.60.
Trawlers Landed Tranquility, Fear Not, Crystal Tide, and Heather Sprig.
At Ullapool it was a quite week with Two Scottish Crabbers landing 24 tonnes of brown Crabs, Two Spanish liner/netters bringing in 34 tonnes of mixed white fish, while a Scottish Scalloper landed Six tonnes of locally caught shellfish.
At Fraserburgh Harbour over the week 76 trawlers landed a total of 3100 boxes of white fish Which made only fair prices.
At Buckie Harbour there were landings from 11 trawlers total ling 844 boxes of whitefish, prawns and squid.
At Scrabster Harbour Nine boats landed a total of 4806 boxes of white fish selling at reported fair prices.
At Pittenweem Harbour there were good catches of prawns landed and selling for reported good prices. The local prawn fleet are still working the fishing grounds of the Firth of Forth. Some of the local catch is still being sold to outlets in Paris.
At the small harbours of St. Monans, Anstruther and Crail the shellfish boats are still landing lobster and crabs which are sold locally for fair prices.
