It has been a norm for Seafish from 1984 to run a competition on the food and drink calendar, rewarding fish and chip shops around the country which offer the best quality, value and choice. The organization asked customers to vote for their favourite chippie. This enables the fish friers in the country to serve better quality in comparison to prices.
Celebrity chef Simon Rimmer, a big fan of fish and chips, kicked off the competition and is encouraging other fish and chip enthusiasts to visit their favourite shop and vote. He said that fish and chips have gone from strength to strength in recent years. This great British staple offers terrific value for money and a real feel good factor as you tuck in.
The competition spoilt the fans of fish and chips by the choice and high standards of the UK’s best shops. I’m looking forward to getting out and sampling some of them. Gordon Hillan, owner of the Townhead Café in Biggar, last year’s Scottish champion and overall UK winner, told that it will be difficult to hand over the crown but I know other shops are raising their game for the competition. Customers have so much choice nowadays as shops are serving a wider variety of fish and shellfish.
