At constant prices, the volume of the catch of Icelandic vessels increased by 9,8% in March 2009 compared with March 2008. In the first three months of 2009 the volume has increased by 14.2 % compared to the same period the previous year.
Total catch of Icelandic vessels in March 2009 was 108,612 tonnes compared to 169,690 tonnes in March 2008. Demersal species accounted for 60 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 27 thousand tonnes, haddock nearly 12 thousand tonnes, redfish 11 thousand tonnes and saithe 5 thousand tonnes. Total catch of pelagic species accounted for 45 thousand tonnes, thereof blue whiting catch 39 thousand tonnes and Mueller’s pearlside 5 thousand tonnes.
