At constant prices, the volume of the catch of Icelandic vessels decreased by 1.5% in July 2009 compared with July 2008. In the first four months of 2009 the volume has increased by 8.4 % compared to the same period the previous year.
Total catch of Icelandic vessels in July 2009 was 160,152 tonnes compared to 153,463 tonnes in July 2008. Demersal species accounted for 33 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 9 thousand tonnes, haddock 5 thousand tonnes, saithe 6 thousand tonnes and redfish 2,600 tonnes. Total catch of pelagic species accounted for 123 thousand tonnes, which was herring for nearly 64 thousand tonnes and mackerel for nearly 59 thousand.
