Total catch of Icelandic vessels in December 2008 was 85,774 tonnes compared to 78,329 tonnes in December 2007. Demersal species accounted for 33 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 12 thousand tonnes, saithe 7 thousand tonnes, haddock 6 thousand tonnes and redfish 5 thousand tonnes. The herring catch was 50 thousand tonnes.
At constant prices the volume of the catch increased by 10.0% in December 2008 compared with December 2007. In the year 2008 the volume decreased by 2.6% compared to previous year.
