Richard Benyon, the Minister for the Natural Environment and Fisheries, has asked the MMO in June 2010 to determine whether the conditions under which licences had been granted remained valid, and that any environmental effects remained tolerable. After thorough study they found that although the disposal activities at the site are compliant with the law and within environmental limits, the MMO recognises there remain local concerns and will be working with local coastal groups to address them.
James Cross, Acting Chief Executive of the MMO, said that they recognise that whilst the activities at the site comply with environmental legislation and are within environmental limits, there remain local concerns that we want to help to address. He added that he would encourage those people in the local community and industry who have an interest in the area to work with us, and we are in talks with local coastal groups to explore options.
