Thyborøn Skibssmedie this week celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, established back in 1967 by blacksmith Børge Stausholm Andreasen in the Danish port of Thyborøn, and since then the company has specialised in producing the distinctive blue trawl doors that are to be seen around the world.
This is more than an ordinary anniversary –this is also a substantial piece of local history as the company has grown and evolved with the town where it has always had its base and where all of its production takes place.
The company’s origins go back to the days of the old V-doors, and these were gradually improved on over the years, developing new lines of trawl doors and investing increasingly over the years in the latest design and production technology to stay at the forefront of a highly competitive market.
Thyborøn Skibssmedie has a constant programme of development and testing, frequently using the flume tank in Hirtshals, and most recently with the arrival of the adjustable Flipper pelagic doors and the new Type 22 Bluestream doors that also have the capacity for adjustment to alter the overall surface area.
On Friday this week the company will clear its factory hall in Thyborøn for a celebration, with both Danish and overseas customers coming to celebrate this anniversary.
