The latest trawler to carry the Therney name is being prepared to start fishing for its Icelandic owners, after having operated in Greenland since it was delivered in 2020.
The The 82 metre LOA, 17 metre breadth Rolls-Royce-designed factory trawler was originally ordered by Icelandic fishing company HB Grandi from Astilleros Armón in Spain, and was planned from the outset to become one of the most sophisticated factory vessels operating in the North Atlantic.
In 2018 there was a significant change in HB Grandi’s ownership – during which the company’s name was changed to Brim – and the new vessel which had been planned to become Therney was instead transferred to partner company Arctic Prime Fisheries and has fished successfully in Greenlandic waters as Ilivileq.
Since then there have been changes in the Brim fleet, with factory trawler Örfirisey laid up and for sale, while the company recently acquired Greenlandic trawler Tuukkaq, equipped for wholefreezing, which briefly became Therney RE-3 before going back to Greenland as Tasermiut.
Now the versatile Ilivileq factory filleter has been brought under the Icelandic flag and is being prepared for fishing in Icelandic waters for Brim as the latest Therney.
