All European fishers are very concerned about their future employment on board European fishing vessels due to the exploding fuel price during last months. Also thousands other job, relaying on fishing activities are at stake. The problem is not new. Early 2000 the fishing sector suffered severe financial losses, which lead to blockades of ports and roads al over Europe.
The problem never disappeared. Therefore the companies could not build up financial reserves that make it possible to overcome a next fuel crisis. Today the fishing sector is facing a total collapse. Wholesalers and importers of fish products already concentrate their trade with partners in third countries. This causes very low prices on the European markets on top of boasting costs.
The European Fishing Action Group invites to restart our movement supporting all international and national fishermen organisations in their campaign for urgent aid to all fishermen all over Europe.
A fishermen meeting is organised on Friday, 30 of may in Brussels, Blijde Inkomstlaan. The meeting room will be indicated on the entrance of the building.and starts at 10 o’clock.
At the meeting a common declaration will be presented. Please contact us on email address:
