Seaonics has signed a contract with shipbuilder VARD to deliver a comprehensive package winches and cranes for Rosund Drift’s new stern trawler.
This includes four 40-tonne electric BigDrum PM trawl winches with an integrated control system.

These are designed to provide precise control and consistent pulling power across all wire layers. The electric design enables energy regeneration back to the vessel’s power system while reducing maintenance requirements compared to conventional hydraulic systems.
‘By combining specialised winches, cranes and control systems, we aim to support Rosund Drift with a handling solution tailored to the demands of modern fishing operations,’ said sales manager Alexander Slinning.
Rosund Drift’s new vessel is scheduled to be delivered in the third quarter of 2028.
In addition to the four main trawk winches, the new trawler will have a bank of eight 18-tonnes sweepline winches, 20- and 30-tonne gilsons, a pair of 16-tonne outhaul winches and twin 16-tonne codend winches. A single 22-tonne net drum is to be mounted over the deck and the package includes a 4-tonne sounder winch and a number of smaller winch units.
The forward crane is a 3,75t78m unit with a 3.75t/16m – 8t/7.5m knuckleboom crane aft.
