Media report states that Dr Geral Scott is an expert in tuna fishery and will join a geographically diverse group of seven scientists who provide guidance to the ISSF Board of Directors. Dr. Scott is Senior Advisor at the NOAA-Fisheries Southeast Science Center in Miami, Florida where he works on assessing the health of fisheries, including tuna stocks in the Atlantic.
Dr Scott’s research supports conservation and management decisions made both in the U.S. and internationally. He also serves as Chair of the Standing Committee on Research and Statistics for the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT). Victor Restrepo, Chair of the ISSF Scientific Advisory Committee, praised the skills of Dr Scott saying that he is expert in communicating complex assessment results in simple terms to a broad audience are unmatched. He is pleased to have him on ISS Committee.
Dr Scott is really tuna expert as he has spent more than two decades conducting quantitative stock assessment research on Atlantic tunas and tuna-like species, marine mammals and reef resources. He holds a PhD in Biological Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island and an AB in Zoology from Miami University.
