Fishing and processing company Maronti has taken delivery of new trawler Santísima Trinidad, built at the SPI shipyard in Mar del Plata.
The 39.96-metre by 11.50-metre beam Santísima Trinidad is the yard’s third newbuild to the same design, following Anita and Luigi which were built for fishing company Luis Solimeno y Hijos.

The new trawler has freezing capacity on board, is built for a crew of up to 40 and has a 40-day endurance, although trips of between 15 and 20 days are expected as it targets hake, squid, and shrimp.
The build has taken time, as the new vessel was conceived in 2020, but the expectation was never that it would be a quick process against the background of the Covid pandemic, financing challenges and the difficult state of Argentina’s economy. All the same, Maronti’s owner Antonio Baldino was determined to build Santísima Trinidad in an Argentinian yard, even though there were opportunities to take the contract to a Spanish yard.
Santísima Trinidad was christened at the Mar del Plata naval base at an event that brought together figures from government and business, as well as the owners and their families, and the staff of the SPI yard. The christening has in the hands of godmothers Maia and Juana Baldino.
According to SPI, the construction of Santísima Trinidad and its sister vessels Anita and Luigi demonstrates SPI’s capacity and its potential to compete internationally.
