Marine pollution has been in the news recently, as the World Economic Forum published a report estimating that by 2050 there will be more plastic waste than fish in the oceans. This comes as no surprise to skipper Max Christensen of Danish fishing boat Jamik K-148, who sent us this clip.
Jamik fishes sometimes in the Øresund, the narrow stretch of water between Denmark and Sweden that separates the cities of Copenhagen and Malmö, where there’s no shortage of trash in the water.
The clip shows cod being gutted on board Jamik, and something that’s no longer unusual – the sight of whole cans or plastic cups that have found their way into the water where fish swallow them.
The World Economic Forum’s predictions may sound like scaremongering, but the stark reality is already here as plastic and micro-plastic waste can be found in oceans around the entire world.
