A series of training seminars delivered by ME Certification to business partner Control Union in Cambodia will ensure that there is a local team of well trained professionals ready to assist fisheries throughout Asia and the Pacific to become Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified.
Earlier this year, Control Union – the Dutch based global certification services provider – acquired a shareholding in British company ME Certification (MEC) in a move to enhance its presence in fisheries and aquaculture certification.
As part of the new partnership arrangement, Kat Collinson and Alba Del Rio from MEC recently hosted training sessions on the MSC Fisheries Standard and certification procedures with Control Union’s Asia team at its annual meeting and conference in Phnom Penh.
The training ensures that Control Union employees throughout the Asia-Pacific region are well-equipped to inform clients and marine stakeholders the advantages and processes involved in fisheries certification.
‘These were thoroughly productive sessions and we were impressed by the commitment of the Control Union participants in ensuring they delivered the best possible service levels to customers,’ said Kat Collinson, fisheries assessment manager at MEC. ‘The Asia-Pacific region hosts a vast array of diverse fisheries and aquaculture sectors and certification is likely to play an increasingly important role in this area over the coming years.’
‘I’m truly impressed by the quality of the training Kat and Alba delivered,’ commented Seth Wang of Control Union. ‘The training greatly improves our understanding of the MSC fishery certification and the requirements for certification. This will allow us to promote and market the program in a time efficient manner.’
‘Sustainable seafood has fast become part of our daily life and I believe with the close relationships we now have with MEC, we will be able to offer comprehensive and unparalleled services to all our clients and increase our market presence in Asia in the near future.’
