Fraserburgh pelagic vessel Christina S has been sold to Icelandic fishing and processing company Samherji, ahead of the new pelagic vessel due to be delivered later this year by the Karstensen yard to the Simpson family.
Renamed Margrét EA-710, the pelagic vessel is the fourth fishing vessel for Samherji to carry the name, and this acquisition comes as this year’s capelin fishery is in its final stages. The company has a substantial amount of quota yet to be caught, and Margaret is expected to get the tail-end of the season.
Margrét was built at Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted in 2008 on a hull constructed in Sevastopol in Ukraine. It has a 72 metre overall length and a 15 metre beam, and has capacity for around 2000 tonnes of fish in its 13 RSW tanks. It has been exceptionally well maintained with only 16,400 hours on the main engine.
Margrét is expected to head for fishing grounds off the west of Iceland with a fresh crew under skipper Hjörtur Valsson.
