Miao Qiang, president of Weihai Yuwang Aquatic Foods Co. Ltd., said that the company said that it had never bought, stored or used fatal pesticides during processing. He informed that 18 samples such as raw materials and packages, were taken for tests and were found free of pesticide. He also added that the company had started investigations into the mackerel products immediately after learning that a Japanese non-governmental testing organization detected fatal pesticides in its exports.
The company is based in the eastern Shandong Province and was exporting fish to Japanese frozen food company, Kouzai Bussan Co. Ltd., for a long time. The Japanese company claimed that the products from Chinese company were detected in frozen mackerel.
According to Japanese media the Chinese products contain 0.14ppm of the pesticide while under Japan’s food sanitation law the residue standard of dichlorvos for fishery products is set at 0.01 parts per million (ppm). The Chinese company said that the mackerel were imported from Denmark and all supplementary materials except salt were provided by the Japanese company.
Miao said that the company has taken serious protective measures including suspending export of relevant products when the news flashed out. He said cooperation of both sides could solve the problem, if there is any.
