So says Jesper Juul Larsen, Chairman of Esbjerg Fishing Association.
– The new employee will start by assessing which fishing can most easily and quickly undergo the preliminary assessment, in order to prepare a so-called pre-assessment report, explains Jesper Juul Larsen, who expects all Danish fishing to be certified over the next year.
He expects sand eel and other industrial fish will be among the first species for which pre-assessment reports are prepared, because the sustainability of the way in which they are fished is already documented.
– At least, I will push for this, concludes Jesper Juul Larsen.
Essential
– Given the spirit of the time and consumers’ changing attitude to the environment and sustainability, such certification will be a good platform for marketing of Danish fish products and especially fishmeal and fish oil, says Jesper Juul Larsen.
– In fact, I will go as far as to say that certification is essential to the survival of industrial fishing, he continues. – The feed manufacturer and fish farmer customers are already beginning to demand certification, and as other meal and oil manufacturers are certified, the pressure on the rest will naturally increase.
– In my opinion, it is therefore not a moment too soon to get started in this country, concludes Jesper Juul Larsen.
