The Cemre Shipyard in Turkey has delivered the Salt-designed pelagic vessel Hardhaus to its Norwegian owners, and after extensive sea trials and an extended delay in completion, due primarily to the Covid pandemic, the new vessel has now arrived in Austevoll.
The design of the new 74.50 metre LOA, 16 metre breadth Hardhaus has has been developed by Salt Ship Design. The new pelagic vessel’s owners were looking for an optimised and energy-efficient replacement for their older vessel with its 6120hp Wärtsilä main engine, choosing for a 4880kW Wärtsilä 8V31 main engine driving a Wärtsilä 4D1095 propeller, and with options for both diesel-electric and diesel-mechanical operation. This is backed up by a 1017kW/h battery pack, also supplied from Wärtsilä, providing opportunities for stabilising power consumption through peak shaving.
With the twin 750ekW Yanmar gensets, Hardhaus has the capacity to produce an overall 6000kW output via its 3500kW PTO/1500kW PTI shaft generator that are key elements of a sophisticated energy layout designed to optimise fuel consumption.
The battery makes it possible to avoid high load variations, as well as enabling the main engine to run at a constant load during steaming, plus providing a power boost when required. The battery pack also provides back-up power while Hardhaus is in port.
The all-electric deck equipment layout is supplied by Rapp Hydema, with a pair of 80-tonne main trawl winches, a 65-tonne net drum and a package of end wire, tail end, net sounder and auxiliary winches. Rapp Hydema also supplied the twin 37.30-tonne purse winches, while partner company Triplex supplied the purse seine handling setup, including a 50-tonne electric net hauler with a permanent magnet motor.
Also part of the Triplex package are the net crane, intermediate roller, ring needle, cork line and sink line stackers, as well as an 83t/m net handling crane. The 60t/m deck crane and fish pump cranes are also Triplex gear, while the pair of 20-inch electric fish pumps are from Rapp Hydema, who also supplied the fish hose and power cable reels for both aft and forward pumping stations.
