According to Birkir Hrannar Hjálmarsson, deputy fleet manager of HB Grandi, Ásbjörn’s catch was discharged on Sunday and distributed across auctions on the first three days of this week. The bulk of the landing was 120 tonnes of redfish and the sale was handled by Ísey in Germany.
‘We’re satisfied with the results, especially as there was plenty of fish available in Bremerhaven that had been shipped in containers at the beginning of the week. We heard that 300 tonnes of redfish were expected in containers, but some of this may have been sent to the French market,’ said Birkir Hrannar Hjálmarsson.
Ásbjörn’s fish fetched an average price of €1.80 per kilo (300 Isl Kr/kg), with the largest grades of redfish at over 700gr selling for an average of €2.62 per kilo (438 Isl Kr/kg). Smaller grades sold for an average of €1.07 per kilo (179 Isl Kr/kg).
Ásbjörn sailed from Bremerhaven on Monday evening and is expected to dock in Reykjavík at midday on Saturday
