Canadian government has made joint announcements in Yarmouth and Moncton, pledging $328,750 to help advertise in countries around the world the benefits of buying Atlantic Canadian lobster. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has come forward to help struggling fishermen with a global promotion effort to include media campaigns, retail promotions, market research and special events for chefs.
It is said that they will create numbers of consumer advertising will promote Canadian lobster as a unique delicacy. The project will focus on maintaining the United States as the Canadian lobster industry’s largest market. It is fact that 70 percent of Nova Scotia lobster is sold to American buyers every year. But emerging markets in Europe and Asia is said to be included in the marketing project.
Experts opined that a higher profile for Atlantic Canadian lobster will create more market opportunities and greater returns for lobster fishermen, said West Nova MP Greg Kerr, who attended the Yarmouth announcement. Federal Fisheries Minister Gail Shea explained that the government is aware that the lobster industry has been hit hard by the economic downturn. She also said it is good that federal and provincial governments are working with the lobster industry on a range of marketing initiatives designed to increase the profile of Canadian lobster.
