As per media report the Royal Brunei Marine Police has caught illegal fishing activities at prohibited areas conducted along Jerudong Beach. The fishers used towed trawl nets locally called `pukat’. After the raid the fishermen fled their boats and went ashore, leaving behind their trawl nets, which the police seized.
The Marine Police said that they also foiled a similar attempt along the Jerudong Beach in mid-February. Two foreign fishermen working with a local private company were detained. Further investigation showed they were working with a company recorded with three similar offences.
The offenders were issue a compound by the authorities. The Marine Police told fishermen to comply with regulations on the use of fishing gear and the conditions under the fishing licence requirements. Offenders face a fine not exceeding $10,000 or imprisonment not exceeding one year or both.
