Industrial species accounted for the most landed tonnage in Denmark during the first half of 2024.
Blue whiting is at the top of the list, with 214,000 tonnes, followed by 80,000 tonnes of sprat and 76,000 tonnes of sandeel. 7000 tonnes of boarfish were also landed for fishmeal and fish oil production.
In terms of human consumption species, blue mussel tops the list with 10,000 tonnes, followed by 3100 tonnes of cod, 4450 tonnes of plaice and 1100 tonnes of whiting.
The Ministry of Fisheries points out that the figures cover the period from January to June and reflect species in season during that period of the year, so the July to December figures will reflect species in season later in the year.
