With few prospects for the capelin quotas to be allocated in the near future, HB Grandi has decided to put its pelagic vessels on to blue whiting. Lundey NS and Faxi RE are on the fishing grounds south of the Faroe Islands. Ingunn AK was scheduled to leave Reykjavík last night.
The company’s three pelagic vessels have a 24,300 tonne blue whiting quota for this year.
According to Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, head of HB Grandi’s pelagic division, it was a disappointment that last week’s research cruise did not locate larger volumes of capelin.
‘The blue whiting fishing was good south of the Faroes last week and so we decided to put the ships on that. Lundey started fishing yesterday morning and Faxi were then in a position to make a start shortly,’ Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson said.
